First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing to deliver Victoria’s Aboriginal Women’s Health Clinic

The Victorian Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas today announced that First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing (FPHW) has been appointed to deliver a new dedicated health clinic for Aboriginal women. The Clinic will enable better access to high-quality and culturally safe healthcare, supporting women with a range of health concerns.

FPHW has long understood the need for a dedicated service to meet the health and wellbeing needs of First Nations women. At all stages of life, women in Australia are at greater risk of ill health than men. These issues are compounded for First Nations women who experience significantly poorer health outcomes than non-Aboriginal women.

“We are beyond proud to have been selected to deliver the Aboriginal Women’s Health Clinic on behalf of the state of Victoria. It’s testament to our expertise in delivering trusted, high-quality care to Victorian First Nations women, including through services such as our Early Parenting Centre – Baluk Balert Barring”, says FPHW CEO Karinda Taylor.

The Aboriginal Women’s Health Clinic will enable FPHW to expand the breadth and depth of services we offer to First Nations women, ensuring they feel seen, heard and understood, in culturally-safe care environments.

“This much-needed funding will enable First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing to see and treat more women, often with long-standing and complex health conditions who may otherwise be at risk of going untreated”.

The Aboriginal Women’s Health Clinic will launch in the middle of the year providing a range of services including screening, diagnosis, and management of women’s health conditions.

Women will have access to services at FPHW’s Thomastown and Frankston Clinics, and through partnerships and referral pathways with other healthcare providers. This will help enable Aboriginal women in other parts of Victoria to access the care they need.

FPHW’s Women’s Health Clinic will help address the health equity gap, ensuring Aboriginal women have access to high quality and culturally safe and responsive health services.
